Mineral Separation Laboratory

The Mineral Separation Laboratory performs the following treatments of samples:

  • splitting en crushing
  • storing samples
  • heavy liquid separations (coarse)
  • deslime and magnets
  • heavy liquid- and magnet-separations (fine)
  • mineral picking

Rock samples (igneous, sedimentary) are reduced and fractionated in order to be selected into separate minerals by means of various separation techniques.

Services

The Mineral Separation Laboratory performs operations for researchers from the Faculty of Earth and Life Sciences, but also for researchers from outside the faculty. This means that researchers from outside the Vrije Universiteit who want to use the equipment of the laboratory are more than welcome.

On this website you can see all the equipment of the laboratory, including manuals for the operation of all the machines. Please turn to Roel van Elsas for more information about the services of the Mineral Separation Laboratory.
